Micro Data Center Solution for General Hospital, Luanda, Angola
[Abstract]: GOTTOGPOWER micro data center, UPS & precision AC deployed at Angola hospital imaging center, delivering stable power, environment control and continuous MRI & X-ray operation.
As medical infrastructure continues to advance across Africa, a growing number of hospitals are deploying MRI, CT, Digital Radiography (DR) and telemedicine systems. These sophisticated medical devices impose higher requirements on power supply reliability and operating environment. For hospitals, an unplanned power outage can not only cause equipment downtime, but also disrupt patient diagnosis and treatment workflows, and even result in the loss of critical medical data.
Recently, GOTTOGPOWER has successfully delivered the medical imaging center infrastructure project for a general hospital in Luanda, Angola. We provided the client with an integrated solution consisting of micro-module data center, modular UPS and data center precision air conditioning, ensuring safe and reliable operation for MRI systems, DR equipment and medical image storage platforms.
1. Challenges in Medical Imaging Center Construction
As a key local medical institution, the hospital has been advancing digital medical development in recent years, with MRI systems, Digital Radiography (DR) systems and PACS medical image storage platforms put into use successively. As the number of devices grows, a series of deficiencies have gradually surfaced in its original infrastructure.
First, the local power grid is plagued by voltage fluctuations, voltage sags and scheduled power outages. As high-precision medical equipment, MRI and X-ray systems are extremely sensitive to power quality. A power outage in the middle of an examination will not only disrupt diagnosis and treatment procedures, but also undermine equipment stability and patient care experience.
Second, PACS servers, medical information systems and network devices run nonstop all year round, generating massive heat inside the equipment room. Traditional comfort air conditioners fail to deliver 24/7 constant temperature and humidity control. Long-term operation in an unstable environment will raise the failure rate of devices and shorten their service life.
In addition, the hospital plans to deploy CT scanners and teleconsultation systems in the future. It requires the infrastructure to have solid scalability, so as to avoid redundant investment and repeated equipment room renovation at a later stage.

2.Customized Micro-Modular Data Center Solution
To address the hospital’s practical requirements, GOTTOGPOWER deploys the GT-DC5000 micro-modular data center as the core infrastructure platform. This system integrates power distribution, UPS, precision cooling, monitoring management and IT cabinets into standardized modules, greatly shortening the construction cycle and reducing the complexity of subsequent operation and maintenance (O&M).
Compared with traditional equipment rooms, the micro modular data center allows rapid setup of a standardized operating environment in limited space, enabling unified management of power supply, cooling and monitoring systems. Meanwhile, the modular design supports flexible scalability in line with future business growth, reserving sufficient space for the hospital’s ongoing digital transformation.
The whole system features a closed hot and cold aisle containment design, which effectively boosts cooling efficiency, cuts energy consumption, and provides a more stable operating environment for critical medical services.

3.Modular UPS Secures Medical Operations
As the core power backup system of this project, GOTTOGPOWER has equipped the client with the modular online UPS with a system capacity of 60kVA, and configured a 10-minute backup runtime according to the client’s actual load demand.
The critical loads in the project include MRI control systems, digital X-ray workstations, PACS image storage servers, network switching equipment and hospital information systems. These devices undertake the core tasks of medical image acquisition, storage and transmission, and any power interruption may impact business operations.
GOTTOGPOWER’s modular UPS adopts online double-conversion technology, which effectively isolates mains voltage fluctuations, harmonic interference and momentary power outage risks. In the event of mains abnormality, the UPS realizes seamless transfer to continuously power critical equipment. Meanwhile, the 10-minute backup runtime provides sufficient buffer for the hospital’s backup diesel generator to start up and complete switching, ensuring continuous operation of the entire medical imaging center.
For the hospital, this means MRI examinations will not be forced to interrupt due to power outages, X-ray image acquisition will not be affected by power fluctuations, and critical medical data will receive continuous protection.
- Double-Conversion Isolation, Clean Power Supply
Targeting the pain point that precision medical devices such as MRI and DR systems are susceptible to mains harmonics and voltage fluctuations, GOTTOGPOWER adopts online double-conversion technology to fully isolate grid interference and output stable pure sine wave power, fundamentally eliminating image distortion and equipment failures caused by poor power quality.
- Modular Redundancy, Online Maintenance
This solution solves the drawbacks of traditional UPS: single point of failure and mandatory shutdown for maintenance and capacity expansion. The modular architecture supports automatic fault isolation and hot-swappable operations. Component replacement and capacity upgrade can be completed without power interruption, fully meeting the hospital’s 7×24 uninterrupted medical operation requirements.
- Seamless Transfer, Backup Handover
It bridges the power gap during the startup of backup diesel generators after mains failure. The UPS achieves zero-millisecond seamless transfer upon mains abnormality, and the 10-minute backup runtime enables smooth handover to generator sets, ensuring uninterrupted image acquisition and data storage processes and safeguarding the continuity of core medical services.
4.Precision Air Conditioning Builds a Stable Equipment Room Environment
Medical imaging systems rely not only on stable power supply, but also on a consistent operating environment.
For this project, GOTTOGPOWER deploys dedicated data center precision air conditioning systems to deliver year-round 7×24 continuous cooling for the micro modular data center. Compared with traditional commercial air conditioners, precision air conditioners feature higher sensible heat cooling capacity and more accurate temperature and humidity control, sustaining an optimal operating environment for equipment at all times.
As servers, storage devices and network systems run continuously, massive heat accumulates inside the equipment room. Inadequate heat dissipation can easily create local hot spots and compromise equipment operating stability. Through precise airflow organization and hot/cold aisle management, the precision air conditioning system delivers uniform air supply, effectively preventing local overheating and improving overall system reliability.
Stable environmental control not only extends equipment service life, but also ensures the long-term secure storage of medical imaging data.
- Precise Temp & Humidity Control
Targeting the drawbacks of traditional commercial air conditioners — low control accuracy and weak sensible heat cooling capacity — professional precision air conditioners achieve high-precision regulation, consistently maintaining the optimal operating environment for equipment and meeting the stringent operational requirements of medical imaging devices.
- Uniform Airflow Cooling
It solves the problem of concentrated heat from high-density equipment and uneven heat dissipation that easily forms local hot spots. Through precise airflow organization and hot/cold aisle management, it delivers uniform air supply, effectively avoids local overheating, and enhances overall system reliability.
- 24/7 Cooling, Long-Term Safeguard
It provides year-round 7×24 uninterrupted cooling support. Stable environmental control extends equipment service life and builds a solid environmental barrier for the long-term secure storage of medical imaging data.
5.Smart Monitoring for Proactive O&M
To further improve operation and maintenance (O&M) efficiency, the project is also deployed with an intelligent monitoring platform that conducts real-time monitoring of UPS operating status, battery health, temperature and humidity parameters, and air conditioning performance.
Administrators can track the real-time operating status of the equipment room via a unified monitoring interface. When abnormalities occur, the system automatically sends alarm notifications to help O&M personnel detect and address potential risks in a timely manner.
This proactive early warning mode effectively reduces the workload of manual inspection, improves overall system availability, and delivers a higher level of support for the continuous operation of the hospital’s critical business.

6.Project Results
Since the project went into official operation, the overall operational stability of the hospital’s medical imaging center has improved remarkably.
- Stronger Continuity of Clinical Services
Backed by the highly reliable modular UPS power system, core diagnostic equipment including MRI and digital X-ray systems is fully insulated from grid disturbances such as mains fluctuations and momentary power failures, and runs steadily even in complex power conditions. This avoids clinical risks and prolonged patient waiting caused by interrupted examinations, ensures efficient imaging services and uninterrupted clinical delivery, and supports the orderly daily operation of the department.
- Enhanced Medical Image Data Security
The PACS imaging storage platform is under the dual protection of stable power supply and precision cooling. It eliminates data loss risks from sudden outages, and prevents hazards like server overheating downtime and accelerated hardware aging through constant temperature and humidity control.
