Product Description

1. Product Overview

The GSS-SE Rack Series 6–10kVA is a 2U 19-inch rack-mount, single-phase online double-conversion UPS developed by GOTTOGPOWER (ANHUI) CO., LTD for medium-scale server racks, network equipment rooms, and edge infrastructure where 6–10kW of protected output needs to fit in two rack units. The headline specification is straightforward: 10kW in 2U. That density number matters to anyone managing a populated equipment rack, because it means the UPS itself consumes the same two rack units regardless of whether the protected load is 6kW or 10kW — leaving the remaining rack height available for revenue-generating compute, storage, or networking hardware.

Built on a 3-level power conversion topology with high-performance DSP control, the GSS-SE Rack delivers 95.5% efficiency in normal mode, ≤1% output THDu under linear load, and 0ms transfer time in both directions — main-to-battery and inverter-to-bypass. The RL (long-run) models support external battery expansion with up to 18A charging, the highest charging current in the rack UPS range, enabling large external battery cabinets to be restored to full reserve more quickly than any other model in the series.

2. Key Features

  • 10kW in 2U — Rack Power Density Where It Counts: Two rack units at 172mm tall. That is the physical cost of putting 10kW of online UPS protection into a 19-inch rack with the GSS010RB-SE or GSS010RL-SE. For a fully loaded 42U rack, the UPS occupies less than 5% of available height while protecting 100% of the load — a ratio that 3U, 4U, or tower-adjacent rack UPS alternatives cannot match.
  • 3-Level Topology — Efficiency and Waveform Quality Combined: The 3-level conversion architecture simultaneously achieves 95.5% efficiency and ≤1% output THDu under linear load — lower distortion than most 2-level designs at the same power class. The result is cleaner power for sensitive loads (medical imaging controllers, precision measurement equipment, audio hardware) without sacrificing the energy performance that determines cooling load in a dense rack.
  • 0ms Transfer Time in Both Directions — No Transition Gap: Most online UPS systems guarantee 0ms main-to-battery transfer but allow a brief delay on the inverter-to-bypass path. The GSS-SE Rack delivers 0ms in both directions, meaning that neither a grid failure nor a UPS overload event creates any detectable interruption to connected equipment — the output stays up regardless of which switching event is occurring.
  • Half-Wave Load Compatibility — No Load Restrictions: The GSS-SE Rack is specifically designed to handle half-wave rectifier loads that cause problems for UPS systems with inadequate neutral current handling. Industrial control gear, older server PSUs, and certain medical devices produce half-wave current draw — the GSS-SE Rack accommodates them without derating or protection trips.
  • Adaptive 40–70Hz Input — Generator and Weak-Grid Ready: The 40–70Hz input frequency range covers not just the standard 50Hz and 60Hz grids but also the frequency excursions that occur when a diesel generator is warming up, lightly loaded, or running on an unstable fuel supply. The UPS locks onto the input frequency and adapts its output accordingly, allowing seamless operation through generator start sequences.
  • Up to 18A Charging on RL Models — Fastest Rack-Level Battery Recovery: The RL long-run models accept up to 18A of battery charging current — the highest rating in the GOTTOGPOWER rack UPS range. A 192VDC battery string absorbs charge at 18A substantially faster than at 8A or 12A, reducing the post-outage window during which the UPS is operating with a partially depleted reserve.
  • High-Performance DSP — Reliable Control Under All Load Conditions: A dedicated high-performance DSP governs all real-time UPS functions, providing sub-cycle fault detection, precise output regulation (±1% voltage accuracy), and stable operation across the full load range including non-linear, asymmetric, and half-wave current profiles.

3. Typical Applications

The GSS-SE Rack Series addresses a specific density requirement: 6–10kW of protected power in two rack units, with a topology that handles the full range of real-world rack loads:

  • High-Density Server Racks — Maximum kW Per Rack Unit: 2U for 10kW means the UPS is never the limiting factor in a high-density rack build. Data center operators can fill a 42U rack with compute and storage hardware, then add the UPS in the last two units without renegotiating the rack layout.
  • Network Operations Center (NOC) Racks — Always-On with 0ms Both Ways: NOC racks carry infrastructure that must survive both power events and overload conditions without any detectable interruption. The GSS-SE Rack's 0ms dual transfer eliminates the brief output gap that occurs in conventional online UPS designs during bypass transitions.
  • Medical Equipment Racks — ≤1% THDu for Sensitive Loads: Medical imaging controllers, patient monitoring aggregators, and clinical informatics servers are sensitive to output power quality. The GSS-SE Rack's ≤1% linear-load THDu keeps the output cleaner than the grid input in most hospital environments.
  • Industrial Edge & Process Control Racks — Half-Wave Load Tolerant: Industrial racks carrying PLCs, VFDs, and legacy process control hardware often include half-wave loads that other rack UPS units cannot accommodate without derating. The GSS-SE Rack handles them at full rated power.
  • Broadcast & Production Racks — Low Noise Floor, Clean Output: 58dB maximum noise and ≤1% THDu make the GSS-SE Rack a suitable UPS for audio production racks, broadcast master control equipment, and AV distribution systems where both acoustic and electrical noise floors are specified.
  • Finance & Trading Racks — Zero-Gap Bypass Transitions: Trading infrastructure rack UPS must not introduce even a millisecond gap during bypass transitions, as some load protection equipment interprets any transition as a fault. The 0ms inverter-to-bypass transfer eliminates this risk.

4. Technical Specifications

Note: RB = Rack Built-in Battery (2U, depth 660mm); RL = Rack Long-run External Battery (2U, depth 580mm). All models are 2U (172mm height). Parallel operation is not supported on any model.

5. Certifications & Compliance

The GSS-SE Rack Series is tested against IEC 62040-3 for UPS performance classification. The ≤1% linear-load and ≤5% non-linear-load THDu figures are both measured and reported per IEC 62040-3 test methodology — the same standard used for the tower GSS-SE Series, allowing direct comparison of output quality specifications between rack and tower form factors.

6. Interfaces & Optional Accessories

Standard Interface

RS232 is the standard communication port on all four GSS-SE Rack models. In a rack environment, RS232 typically connects to a dedicated management server or out-of-band console port rather than a production server, keeping UPS monitoring traffic off the production network and separate from the loads being protected.

Optional Accessories

  • RS485 — adds Modbus RTU communication for integration with data center BMS, DCIM infrastructure, or row-level power monitoring systems that aggregate UPS status alongside PDU, CRAC, and environmental sensor data over a shared RS485 bus.
  • SNMP Card — brings the rack UPS onto the IP network for SNMP v1/v2/v3 monitoring, enabling DCIM platforms, NMS systems, and automated shutdown managers to poll UPS status and receive traps without a serial concentrator.
  • Dry Contact Card — provides isolated relay outputs for hard-wired integration with generator control panels, raised-floor EPO systems, and building fire suppression interlocks that require a volt-free contact rather than a data protocol.
  • APP / Wi-Fi / Bluetooth — wireless access to UPS parameters and alarms via mobile device, useful for initial commissioning, periodic walkaround checks, and ad-hoc troubleshooting without connecting a laptop to the rack.
